Here at SLYK, we’re big fans of tablets. They’re fun to use, they’re great for watching TV and movies, and they can help you be more productive. The question is, which is the best tablet you can buy right now? It’s difficult to narrow it down to just one since there are so many to choose from, so we’ve narrowed it down to our five favourites. Here are the best tablets on sale today.
The New iPad (2019 – £349)
We start with the most popular tablet of them all – the iPad. Since it was first released in 2010, it has consistently been the go-to tablet, with people often using the term “iPad” to talk about tablets in general. The latest offering continues this tradition of being the best option for the masses. It comes with the latest iPadOS software which offers a whole host of features that are specifically designed for tablets, such as improved multitasking and desktop-class web browsing.
You can also make use of Apple’s excellent range of accessories, such as the Apple Pencil and Smart Keyboard, which make the iPad even more versatile. Coupled with a 10.2-inch Retina display and elegant, lightweight body, it’s the complete package. Plus, with a starting price of £349, it’s incredibly affordable (for an iPad!).
iPad Pro (2018 – £769)
The iPad Pro has many of the same features as the New iPad above, but it turns everything up to 11. It’s the undisputed champ of the tablet world, and it comes with a price tag to match, starting at £769. It has an incredibly sharp Liquid Retina display and a 120Hz refresh rate, making for silky smooth movements and animations. It also comes with a fingerprint-resistant coating and anti-reflective screen technology, meaning you’ll be able to use the iPad Pro in all lighting conditions.
The iPad Pro truly deserves its “Pro” title; you can tell it’s designed with professionals in mind. It’s capable of recording video in 4K resolution – sharper than most displays you can currently buy! It also powerful enough to allow for intensive tasks like editing large photo and video files, and with the Apple Pencil, it’s incredibly fun and intuitive.
If you want the most capable, complete tablet experience available, then the iPad Pro is the way to go. However, bear in mind the rather hefty price tag.
Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 (2019 – £619)
The Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 is the best Android-powered tablet you can buy. If you’re not much of an Apple fan and feel more at home in the Android world, then this is the tablet for you. The integrations are excellent if you already own a Samsung Galaxy smartphone, for example, you can answer calls on your tablet if your phone is out of reach.
The S Pen stylus is an excellent accessory, similar to other styluses, and enables your creativity to flourish. It’s incredibly intuitive and allows you to take full advantage of the 10.5-inch screen.
If you’re already familiar with Android, then you’ll know just how customisable it is – and the Galaxy Tab 6 is no different. Configure the tablet to work exactly how you want it to – there’s no such thing as “one size fits all”.
Amazon Fire HD 10 (2019 – £149.99)
The Amazon Fire HD 10 is the best budget tablet available today. At just £149.99, it’s a quarter of the price of most of the other tablets we’ve mentioned. For that, you get a 10.1-inch full 1080p HD display and an excellent 12-hour battery life. It’s the best tablet that Amazon makes, and perfect for someone who doesn’t want/need all the bells and whistles that come with most tablets. It’s great for reading, watching movies, and browsing the web. Unlike most tablets, you also get to choose from four colours: Black, White, Twilight Blue, and Plum. Furthermore, since it’s an Amazon tablet it has the Alexa voice assistant, which is great if you already have an Amazon Echo at home.
Microsoft Surface Pro 7 (2019 – £699)
With the Microsoft Surface Pro 7, you’re not just getting a tablet – you’re getting a fully-functioning computer. Couple it with the excellent keyboard accessory, and you have a full workstation setup. It runs on Windows 10, a powerful operating system that comes with the full Microsoft Office suite included, making it arguably the best tablet for professionals. With a 12.3-inch screen, it’s comparable with most laptops, but it has the benefit of being light enough to carry around with you all day and has a touchscreen for intuitive, immersive control.
The accessories don’t end with a keyboard; you can also buy a Surface Pen stylus and a mouse, enabling you to be as productive as possible, all while on a device that can be comfortably held in one hand.
